Traveling by Train

Currently there are no buses from Vienna to Salzburg. Therefore, the best way to travel is by train. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours. Trains run almost every 30 minutes from Vienna’s central station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) and the cost per ticket is approximately EUR 25. You can purchase the tickets directly on the ÖBB website (The Austrian Federal Railway Operator). Another transportation provider is Westbahn which offers railway travel too. Their offer is exclusively a connection between Salzburg and Vienna. Tickets can be booked online via the Westbahn website.

Air Travel

Daily flights are available between Austria’s two largest airports, the Vienna International Airport (VIE) and Salzburg’s W.A. Mozart Airport  (SZG). All flights currently offered have connections, mostly in Frankfurt. This makes the total travel time similar to that by train and longer. As for reaching Vienna Airport, the easiest way to do so is by trains such as the City Airport Train (CAT).

Renting a Car

Renting a car is also a great option to get to Salzburg. It’s especially true if you are traveling in a group of up to 5 people. Prices start at approximately EUR 60 and most companies allow the car to be returned in Salzburg. you’ll enjoy an approximately 350 kilometre drive in which you will see some incredible landscapes.There are many opportunities to stop and sightsee on the way such as Lake Traunsee and Salzkammergut.

Private bus/sprinter
